Clean Diesel Technology

Clean Diesel offers a flow-through particulate matter (PM) emission control system. The system doesn’t create back pressure on the engine and as a result saves fuel usage compared to filters.

EET’s  Clean Diesel system which is also known as “Diesel Particulate Removal System (DPRS)”  is designed to meet emissions standards for the reduction of diesel exhaust particulate matter (PM). It is a true flow through device with no restrictions resulting in no back pressure on the engine (no fuel penalty), thermal management, and regeneration requirements compared to current filter-based technologies. It has low initial cost and virtually no operating cost. DPRS  is a plasma-catalytic oxidation system.

EET’s patented system is based on non-thermal plasma technology. A corona discharge is created by applying high voltage to a unique probe geometry enclosed within a chamber configuration which may be mounted anywhere in the exhaust path piping. The device is not dependent on heat from the engine for operation. It is active, removing black carbon soot, as soon as the engine is started. No engine warm up is required.

Disruptive Technology

Our core technology features a patent protected method of using non-thermal plasma (NTP) or plasma-catalytic oxidation  for removing particulate matter (PM) and other pollutants found in diesel engine exhaust. DPRS has been in development for several years with support from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Clean Diesel Components

How Clean Diesel Works

DPRS is composed of a pipe like chamber that houses the probes, which create the plasma field to convert the solid carbon soot particles to gases. The chamber probe is supplied high voltage by a proprietary power supply that operates off the diesel engine battery. The DPRS power supply provides high voltage at low current to the chamber probes. Housed in a NEMA enclosure, when combined with a conventional catalytic diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), it removes over 90 percent of the carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC) and meets emissions standards for the removal of PM. The DPRS has been field tested for a variety of applications including transit buses, shuttle buses, generator sets and engine dyno test setups. Currently, EET is preparing the DPRS for CARB verification.
